Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
I am Co-Founder of Make Me Blue IOS App Development. We started MMB because of ideas that were just were screaming to be more than just an idea. The first idea we birthed, was the iPhone game Make Me Blue, a free “Rubik’s cube-ish” game that challenges your spatial awareness. Our second baby was Easy Annotate and after almost a year of “labour”, it was born at the end of November 2013.
What led to the development of Easy Annotate?
While using the established annotation apps we ran into limitations. We could only open one PDF at once and creating links within a PDF or to another PDF was not possible. After some research, we started building our own app, resulting in Easy Annotate.
What makes Easy Annotate unique?
The reactions from our users show that some are enthusiastic about viewing 2 PDFs at once, for example to have the same PDF in two different languages next to each other, while others enjoy linking PDFs.
Do you think the app is best suited to a particular age of student or teaching stage?
Teachers can use Easy Annotate to send a PDF with assignments / questions to their students, who can link / annotate the answers in their lesson book and then send the assignment PDF back to the teacher for checking. This functionality is useful for all ages, from starting readers to medicine students.
How important was the inclusion of Dropbox functionality?
Very important. Dropbox enables the easy import and export of documents, and makes it easier to share the edited documents with others. It also greatly reduced the implementation time, as users can connect their Dropbox account, and immediately start using their existing PDF collection.
Have you been pleased with the reception for the app so far?
We’ve received many positive reviews from professional reviewers. But what we find even more important is that we’ve received enthusiastic reactions from around the globe. That’s super!
How important do you feel the use of mobile technology is to the modern educator?
To prepare students for modern life, you can’t use teaching methods from a past life. In all we do and experience, mobile technology is increasingly coming to the fore. Thus it’s only logical that education, the basis of everyone’s life, must be at the forefront of such developments.
What advice would you give to a teacher who is new to the world of iPads in education?
Use the popularity, accessibility and possibilities of the iPad. Use your own creativity or someone else’s to improve learning and make learning fun.
What's next for you? Are there any updates or new projects you can tell us about?
We’ll continue developing Easy Annotate. At the moment we are integrating new services such as Google Drive, Box and WebDAV. At the same time we are busy making the app more accessible to non-English speakers. And that’s not even mentioning expanding to other platforms.
Thanks for speaking with us Chris. We really like Easy Annotate and hope to hear more great things from you in the future.
