An obvious place to start but essential nonetheless. iBooks is the best way to view ebooks and the store has a huge selection, including many free classics.
An excellent app that allows for collaborative engagement with ebooks. Texts can be enhanced with quizzes, tasks and links then shared via code to a class. Essential.
A clever idea here. This app can help diagnose reading problems (e.g. rhyming, blending, fluency etc) then suggests follow up activities.

There are many flashcard apps out there but this is our favourite. Hundreds of cards and you can even record your own voice into the app!
Clever app that produces text response forms according to the categories set out by Bloom's Taxonomy. As such, it can be used with literally any text. Great for indepedent reading too.

BAFTA nominated and stunningly presented ebook with a difference - the reader controls narrative variations to alter the story's structure. Highly recommended for young readers.

LEARN WITH HOMER
Already spotlighted here on the site, this is an incredibly well-designed phonics program that is fun but thorough. Huge range of content and activities.
First rate app that brings the entire topic of reading comprehension together in one app. An excellent teaching aid with a wide selection of resources to use on the iPad or print off.
Another great library app that is aimed at 0-8 year olds. Vast selection of ebook titles to choose from.
Great app for developing phonics, spelling and vocabulary. Build words from scattered letters then watch great little animations defining them.
