CONCEPT: Augmented reality colouring! Colour in a picture, scan it and watch it come to life just the way you designed it.
DELIVERY: I actually saw a prototype app similar to this from Zientia a couple of months ago at the GESS Conference and was blown away then. The way that the colours you choose are reflected in the augmented reality model really has to be seen to be believed.
Using the app is by simple. Download some of the trigger pages from the ColAR website and print them. Colour them any way you like and then scan with the app to see an animated version of your specific colouring stand before you in augmented reality. You can zoom in for a closer look and even take a snapshot to your camera roll as a memento.
The precision of the AR models is very good, with no heavy glitching as you move around the object. I even tried deliberately colouring part of the image in sloppily and this was reflected in white patches being left in that part of the design.
LIMITATIONS: the range of images is limited and even the selections currently available through in app purchase are not diverse enough.
CONCLUSION: The evolution of colouring in! A novel and potentially mind-blowing app for the iPad generation. 4/5
