CONCEPT: Ever wondered what you'd look like as an early human?
DELIVERY: Though your answer to the above question is probably no, it doesn't mean you shouldn't check out this free app from The Open University. Devolve Me allows users to load or take a photo then transform the image into an appropriation of how you would have looked millions of years ago. There are actually four distinct stages of development that you can devolve to, ranging from half a million years ago to nearly four million years ago. For each, the full name is provided along with a short paragraph about each.
Having selected the stage you wish to devolve to, the app completes the transformation, though you are also given the option of controlling the process via a slider bar. Images can then be exported to camera roll and thus inserted into other apps (hello Morfo.)
So yes, it's a booth app, but a useful one for the student of evolution!
LIMITATIONS: Some more detail on each stage of evolution would have been welcome, or links to relevant information online.
CONCLUSION: Another unique concept from The Open university. Depending on your subject area, it could find a place in a project. 3/5
APPLICATIONS: As a part of a study on evolutionAs a prompt for creative writingGreat to combo with Morfo and make the devolved you speak!
