CONCEPT: An automatic bibliography creation tool.
DELIVERY: This app would have saved me hours in high school and
university! Its simple design and minimalist interface make this an absolutely essential app for students writing reports. The process of correctly acknowledging authors who help students reach conclusions can be incredibly tedious, especially when a great deal of background reading has taken place. With ever increasing technologies to detect plagiarism, the need for a correctly documented bibliography has never been higher.
With a built in scanner, Easybib’s camera view’s a bar code or ISBN number and automatically creates a citation in MLA, APA or Chicago/Turabian format. For those as uneducated as myself, here’s a basic breakdown of what those formats relate to.
APA: psychology, education, and other social sciences.
MLA: literature, arts, and humanities.
Turabian: designed for college students to use with all subjects.
Chicago: used with all subjects in the "real world" by books, magazines, newspapers, and other non-scholarly publications.
Scan another bar code and the citation is added as an increasing alphabetised bibliography. There is also the option to add texts manually by title if the barcode isn’t available, although this seemed to end up with texts not being placed in alphabetical order. Once your list of books is complete, simply e-mail the completed bibliography to use in your report. The whole process can be completed in seconds.
Oh, and did I mention that the app is free?
LIMITATIONS: The scanner on the app can be a little temperamental and
good lighting is definitely needed. Also, manually inputting the book titles can confuse the alphabetically organised system.
CONCLUSION: Reducing the time and tediousness of creating a bibliography by simply scanning a bar code – such a simple idea – such a fantastic time saver. 4/5
