CONCEPT: Capturing two of the most enjoyable early childhood experiences and taking them digital.
DELIVERY: My 6yr old daughter gravitated to this clean cut App every time she stole my iPad on our vacation. In essence this app allows for users to manipulate digital play dough and draw with colour markers.
An easy to use palate lines the right side of the screen. It allows for the user to flick seamlessly between the markers and the play dough options.
The play dough menu provides a variety of common shapes, the 0 – 9 digits and the alphabet to select from. Select one of the colour play dough sticks beside the menu and the play dough instantly changes to that colour. Hold the object and drag it onto the screen where a drop down menu falls from above which allows you to do the usual things such as change the size, rotate and delete. Once complete the user can instantly save their creation to the camera roll whilst it is also saved automatically to Apps Home page.
In the early years this App would be an absolute gem. It is interactive, bright and appealing to young children. It is easy and intuitive to use which will facilitate independent learning tasks. It is transferrable across many curriculum areas which is very appealing.
LIMITATIONS: Once placed on the page the colour of the selected object cannot be changed. The music will possibly drive you a little loco so the ute button is a recommendation.
CONCLUSION: If you are an Early Years to Grade 2 teacher this is well worth a look. And it’s free! 4/5
Art – pretty much anything really!
