CONCEPT: Create short teaser trailers from your images and videos complete with the recognisable voice over of Jonathan Cook.
DELIVERY: Since my background is in film, I always enjoy checking out filmmaking apps. InAWorld is a clever trailer builder that allows you to sew together images and video clips using a library of built in voiceover clips from acclaimed voice artist Jonathan Cook.
The app has a nice selection of voiceover choices that are set up to build a huge variety of plots. In-app purchase is required for the full set of voiceover options though you can simply buy the Drama or Comedy standalone versions of the app as an alternative option.
Having titled your project, you are offered your first selection of dialogue – all of which start with the classic film trailer phrase “In a world…” but apart from that, quite diverse. You’re then able to insert your choice of clip to accompany the line, or elect to leave use no clip and have the words appear on screen themselves. You then repeat the process several times to build up an idea of the plot.
At the end, you get to choose a rating for your film and you can even name your production company via the settings menu. It should also be noted that it’s from this menu that you can lock the mature content from appearing in the app – an essential for the classroom.
LIMITATIONS: Naturally the way the app uses pre-recorded voiceovers mean that you can't write your own text to suit absolutely every project. As a film geek I'd personally also love to see the credits splash screen at the end as that is common to all movie trailers.
CONCLUSION: A quick fire alternative to iMovie's trailer maker that produces a fun and polished product in no time at all. 4/5
