CONCEPT: Easily create digital timelines on your iPad.
DELIVERY: Though ReadWriteThink are primarily focused on reading and language development, we can't help but like the fact that some of their apps have such wide applications across the curriculum. We recently spotlighted their awesome Trading Cards app and this is another worthy download.
The premise and delivery are equally clean and simple - create a digital timeline. I was looking for an app just like this two years ago whilst covering Vikings and naturally it fits well with historical studies. That being said, users could just as easily sequence stories, scientific investigations or anything else that utilises chronological ordering.
Using the app is easy. Upon opening it up, you create a user name and name the timeline. A new point on the line can then be added by tapping the line itself. You can add a label and some simple detail as well as an image. There is also the option to add more substantial detail to a secondary box. These fill up a second page upon completion and offer a nice opportunity for extending more able students.
Users can then manipulate the entries to sit above or below the timeline as they continue to add more sequential content. Entries can be deleted easily or edited to add more information. When finished the timeline can be saved to Photos - always a plus - and the project can be saved to enable students to return to it later.
LIMITATIONS: Users cannot customise the appearance of the actual timeline in terms of colours and fonts. Another nice touch would have been the addition of an audio recording function.
CONCLUSION: Another great tool from the folks at ReadWriteThink with a wide selection of uses and a child-friendly interface. 4/5
