CONCEPT: Use a range of templates to easily design fact file trading cards.
DELIVERY: Those of you that visit the site regularly will know that there are certain things we are always looking for that we think make a great, constructivist app. It needs to be easy to use, versatile and the content should be exportable so that it can be printed or inserted into other apps.
Trading Cards from ReadWriteThink is just that sort of app.
This app allows you to design trading cards using a range of built in templates from real and imaginary people and places to objects and even words. Having selected your card type, you complete the card by choosing a theme for the card, inserting an image and filling in a series of pre-set categories that relate to that type of card. So people have categories such as significance whereas words have sections like origin and synonyms. The variety on offer here makes the app versatile across the curriculum. For each category, prompt questions are also displayed to guide their completion.
When a card is finished it can be saved, exported to the camera roll or directly printed. The cards are two-sided but the composite image is designed to show both sides simultaneously. This means that these cards could be printed, folded and actually used in the real world too!
As your range of cards grows, you can even manage your cards by grouping them into collections. This is a simple process using a drag and drop system.
LIMITATIONS: You cannot edit the categories within a template and have complete creative freedom.
CONCLUSION: An excellent tool for the classroom that can redefine a task and streamline the creation of professional-looking content. 5/5
