CONCEPT: A vast catalogue of visual writing prompts with the ability to add your own and respond in text or audio format.
DELIVERY:I love it when I come across an app like this. Within just a few minutes of opening it, I knew I had a versatile teaching tool that could be easily embedded into a range of lesson types.
Write About This contains nearly 400 unique images to use as stimuli for writing. For each image there are three distinct text prompts, covering a range of tasks and genres. They can also be played back in audio format if required - a great touch that makes the whole app more inclusive to less able and SEN students.
The images are organised into categories but you can also perform a serach for a topic or theme word or even select one at random. The icing on the cake though is the ability to actually import an image and create your own!
Naturally the actual writing could be completed the traditional way but the app also includes a great postcard style writing screen complete with the prompt and image. The best thing about this is that the completed work can be saved to the camera roll making it easy to add it to other project based apps like Book Creator. If the student chooses to record their voice alongside their text (or instead of it) then their work can still be exported as a video file.
LIMITATIONS: It'd be great if the custom prompts you create yourself could be shared out to multiple devices for a class based session.
CONCLUSION: A really impressive app and thoroughly useful for stimulating creativity. Highly recommended.
