CONCEPT: Engage young astronomers with this great interactive game full of facts about space.
DELIVERY:Much like the last release in the Explorium series, this app lets kids learn more about the world (or in this case the universe) through an immersive game environment. Characters Alex and Alice are on hand again to provide a gender based choice of lead as they embark on a mission through the stars.
Along the way information about planets, space exploration and more are divulged by clicking on fact bubbles that pop up on each screen. These are all narrated too meaning that pre-readers do not miss out. As facts are collected, they collate in the game's encyclopaedia section which provides further incentive to locate and unlock them all - a great touch.
To progress through the adventure, the user must also locate and collect gems as well as complete mini games. These range from puzzles to memory tests to a Flappy Burds-esque side scroller and provide a great incentive to keep delving further into the journey. From the main menu the difficulty level of these can also be adapted to meet varying abilities and ages. They can also be accessed independently here.
Puppet Life have also done another great job in terms of overall presentation, with the animation, sounds and narration all being top notch and very child friendly.
LIMITATIONS:I would love to see this series develop to include more creation elements as a part of the overall experience. Some may argue that the blurring of lines between fact and fiction in the app could confuse youngsters.
CONCLUSION: Another great addition to the Explorium series and a great way to encourage inquiry for young learners.
