The 100s Board app was developed by Apple Distinguished Educator Matthew Thomas. The 100s board is of course one of those essential tools for the primary mathematician that has evolved into a variety of digital formats over the last few years. I remember falling in edu-love with the Interactive "splatty" version on the SMART board about ten years back and have seen a few other comparable versions since.
What this app offers is a truly versatile take on the 100s board concept though as it offers a wide range of adaptable settings - something that always elevates an app. So not only can you highlight a specific square on the grid in two different ways but you can use column and row markers to highlight entire sections to help identify number patterns. That's not all though as you can also choose from ten different styles of coloured counters and lay them on the squares. The range of colours here is a great touch as if means multiple students can interact via one device and you can track what they are doing via the colours.
One final addition that's also worth mentioning is the ability to set the starting number to anything you'd like - which is a bonus in terms of differentiation as you can set the start number far higher for more able mathematicians.
Overall it's a worthy purchase that will find regular use in math lessons across various year groups.
