When I was asked this week for a digital spin to win wheel, my instinct was to look for a web-based app. I've used a couple in the past so I knew I could find one quickly. They were all a bit tepid though and lacked customisation so I decided to take a look around in the App Store instead. I came across Spinny Wheel and it really is a great little app.
You can create and save multiple spinners and fully customise the colour and wording of each segment. What makes it special though is the ability to control the size (and thus probability) of each segment as well as the number of segments included. You can even assign each slice as a winning, losing or neutral spin.
This is a great tool for the maths class and could be used for probability, fractions or ratio work easily. After a spinning session, the app even shows a detailed breakdown of the statistics - providing even more opportunities to play and learn with numbers!
Of course you could also use this as a random name picker in class, a job assigner or as it was originally asked of from me - as a spin the wheel game for a school fete!
